Third and last of the Family series, Bata, Bata, which is Filipino for "Child, oh Child" is the most personal out of the three. They are all personal, but I made the others in an outside-looking-in sort of way, while this was all internal. I like to think the child in this piece is the one who has already survived the current terrors, yet expects some more. Is the child committed to face these next terrors? What is it that frightens the soldier? When we think of the future, there is often a mix of hope and dread. I wanted to distill that here.
